WHO I AM
I'm Jeff Grayzel — a two-term mayor of Morris Township, an engineer by training, and an inventor with 13 patents, some of which are still saving lives today.
I learned the meaning of service at my family's kitchen table. My father was a cardiologist who dedicated his life to saving others. He was always looking for better ways to save more live, and taught me to always seek new solutions and never be satisfied with the status quo. My mother was a special education teacher who devoted herself to children others had overlooked. She was also a naturalist who cared for the local park in our neighborhood, and had us pick up garbage when we went on walks. My mom taught me a simple lesson: don't just clean up after yourself — clean up after others too.
That ethos has guided my entire life. As an engineer, I became an inventor — the person who finds a new way forward when everyone else says a problem is impossible. I earned dual degrees from Cornell, then put myself through Columbia at night while working full-time. I spent my career solving hard problems — developing medical devices, building a company, creating things that help people.
Then I looked at my community and saw problems nobody was solving. So I ran for office. Everyone said it was impossible — a Democrat winning in Morris Township? Hadn't happened since Watergate. I lost in '03, '04, and '05. In 2006, I lost by a single vote after a recount. Most people would have quit. I found a new way forward.
In 2007, I won a court-ordered special election — the first Democrat elected in Morris Township in 34 years. In 2019, I became the township's first-ever Democratic mayor. Then I helped flip Chatham Borough, Morris Plains, and Chatham Township blue. I'm an inventor. I tackle the hardest problems. And it's clear that our politics may be the hardest problem of all.
WHY I AM RUNNING
Washington is broken. Our democracy is under attack. Working families are getting squeezed from every direction. And our party needs leaders who actually solve problems — not just give speeches about them.
I've spent my whole life finding a new way forward when everyone else said it couldn't be done. As mayor, I delivered real results: brought the NY/NJ Red Bulls and Restoration Hardware to Morris Township, kept taxes stable for seven years, won a statewide infrastructure award for Southgate Parkway, banned single-use plastics, and expanded EV charging across our community.
Now I'm ready to bring that same problem-solving spirit to Congress — and fight for the people of NJ-11.
America must pivot from a service economy to an innovation economy of the future.
Our energy grid is antiquated and it's costing us.
We need common-sense reform that's just, humane and strategic.
Healthcare costs are crushing working families.
THE BOTTOM LINE
I've spent 20 years fighting for Democrats in Morris County — winning races everyone said were impossible, helping flip towns blue, and never stopping. I'm an engineer with 13 patents, not a career politician.
When a problem is really hard, most people give up before they start. Not me. I find a new way forward.
That's what I've always done. That's what I'll do in Washington.
