- Fight back against Trump and the insanity in Washington, and defend our democracy, with proven leadership known for flipping his town from red to blue and creating a suburban success story.
- Lead the stymied and directionless democratic party with a new vision for the future utilizing a results-driven mindset of a trained engineer and the proven leadership of a Mayor.
WHY I'M RUNNING ...
Trump and Congress are Out of Control
I am running because ... Washington is in chaos and Donald Trump and his loyalist collaborators in Congress are leading us into a danger zone. The damage they are doing is hard to fathom. The longest government shutdown in US history, with our workers being used as pawns in their “game.” Out of control health care costs made worse by massive cuts to the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid. An affordability crisis being driven by Trump’s tariffs. Withholding of federal funds for the Gateway Project, arguably the most important infrastructure project in our country, solely for retribution against blue states. And now, death threats against elected leaders -- on both sides of the aisle -- who simply talk about the harm Trump is doing.
American Democracy is on the Verge of a Hostile Takeover
I am running because ... Trump is shredding democracy before our eyes. Every week we see something new chipping away at the freedoms that have made our country the strongest democracy in history. January 6th insurrectionists receiving pardons. Masked ICE agents disappearing people off the streets in front of their crying children and sending them to foreign prisons. The American military policing American streets. Literal Nazis in Republican group chats being excused by the Vice President of the United States. A government seemingly built to enrich those in charge at every turn. The list of offenses against our Democratic, American values goes on and on.
The Democratic Party is Failing Us
I am running because ... our the Democratic Party is stymied and directionless -- and the people who got us into this mess aren’t going to get us out of it. There is no vision, no new ideas, no grasp of how to fix our biggest problems. Enough is enough! We don’t need more of the same old leadership, the same names of the past that got us nowhere. And we don’t need more party insiders who are working to keep themselves in office instead of working for the people they serve. I was the first Democrat ever elected mayor of my town. I know how to hold Republicans accountable and beat them. When I am elected to Congress, I will fight Trump at every turn and use every bit of leverage I have to hold Trump and his lackies accountable for carrying out their fascist, authoritarian agenda.
The Working Class is Being Squeezed
I am running because ... working people, who are literally the backbone of our country, are taking the brunt of mismanaged public policy. During the shutdown, Trump took away SNAP benefits, causing children and our most vulnerable to go with less food. With healthcare costs spiraling out of control, Trump is removing insurance subsidies to drive costs even higher for working people – and in many cases putting healthcare out of reach. Trump’s tariffs are driving food prices higher, causing an affordability crisis. There is not enough housing stock, and housing prices are out of control too. An average household can no longer get by on a single salary, and things are just getting worse.
The System is Broken
I am running because ... I am tired of all the division. Our politics and our identity as Americans should unite us, and yet we’ve never been more divided. Millions of everyday people are so fed up with the greed, apathy, and negligence from our elected leaders— so much so that they will tolerate, even celebrate, an insurrection. And I’m appalled at the hate-filled rhetoric we now hear from so many dark places, especially against the Jewish people.
AMERICANS ARE HUNGRY FOR CHANGE, AND I WANT TO CHART A NEW PATH FORWARD FOR AMERICA.
